题目特点
补全短文是职称英语考试的第五大题，共有5道小题，每题2分，总计10分。补全短文要求考生根据文章的内容选择5组句子并将其补回原处。
这部分考题本是考查考生把握文章结构和文章思路的能力，但实际上解答此类题是对句子或短语、语法搭配或语义搭配的综合运用。这部分的短文在难度上与阅读理解难度相当。备选答案往往是完整的句子、从句以及各类短语(如名词短语、介词短语、不定式短语、动名词短语、分词短语等)。
空白处在文中的位置有3种，即段首、段中和段尾。根据英语短文的特点，主题句一般在句首和句尾，因而空白处在句首出现时，考查考生对掌握和概括短落大意的能力;空白处出现在句中时，考查考生把握上下文之间意义联系的能力;空白处出现在段尾时，考查考生掌握和概括段落大意的能力，或是根据已读材料进行推理和判断的能力。

这部分题目的`解答既要注意所填部分与原句在语义上的匹配，同时还要注意所填部分与原句前后在语法上的匹配。
1.利用空白处前后的句子成分来判断该处所需的语法结构。
2.利用空白处上下文的语境来判断符合语法结构需求的待选答案在语义上与语境的匹配。
3.通读整句或整段来检查是否选定的答案与原文在语法和语义上都相一致。
4.牢记下面的几个原则：
就近原则——在文章空白处的上下文中寻找解题的线索;
时间原则——出现时间、年代等词语时，要注意文章中的时间与选项中的时间的对应关系;
代词原则——因为指示代词指代前面的内容，所以一般不能作为段落的开头;
重复原则——根据语义走向一致的原则，往往上下文有重复的词是核心词。
【考点说明】
考生在解题时要特别注意空白处前后的句子成分，由此来判断此处所需的语法结构是句子、从句还是短语。如果空白处是在一句话的中间，则需要补全的为短语或从句;如果空白处是在句号的后面，则需要补全的是一个独立的句子。下面将通过举例来说明。
