I think it is safe to say that snakes are not popular among most people. It would be hard to find a person who is neutral (中立的), or simply doesn’t care one way or the other. What I wonder is why something even without legs causes such great fear.

Snakes are quite useful, but that doesn’t seem to matter. Snakes help control the population of mice. Without snakes, perhaps we would find mice everywhere. Most of us, however, would rather see a mouse than a snake.

The poison argument (毒性的争论) is a strong one. Some snakes are poisonous, and this causes people’s death. However, the poisonous snakes are only a small number. We can’t say all the snakes are bad just because of a few dangerous ones.

And what do we do with the people who really like snakes? They like snakes even more strongly than we dislike them. These people learn about them, find them out, and watch them carefully. Why? The only reason I can think of is that these people are open-minded. They are able to put aside differences and welcome the snake as a friend.

Whatever the reason for our like or dislike, snakes do something good in the circle of life. They would prefer to be left alone, and that is what we should do. If you’re lucky, you might not run across more than a few of them in a lifetime. That would be fine with most of us.

  46. How does the writer describe the appearance of snakes?

  A. Something even without legs. B. Something not popular among people.

  C. A person who is neutral. D. A person who cares about nothing.

  47. Which of the following shows that most people dislike snakes?

  A. They welcome snakes as their best friends.

  B. They would rather see a mouse than a snake.

  C. They wonder why snakes can cause great fear.

  D. They learn about snakes and watch them carefully.

  48. Although some snakes are poisonous, ______.

  A. they cause many people’s death

  B. they control the population of mice

  C. they are not dangerous to people

  D. they are only a small number

  49. People who really like snakes are open-minded because they ______.

  A. are able to put aside differences

  B. think all the snakes are poisonous

  C. are able to deal with poisonous snakes

  D. take part in the poison argument

  50. The last paragraph seems to tell us that the writer ______.

  A. dislikes snakes B. has the best luck C. loves snakes D. prefers to be left alone

根据原文“Most of us, however, would rather see a mouse than a snake.”

根据原文“We can’t say all the snakes are bad just because of a few dangerous ones.”

根据原文“The only reason I can think of is that these people are open-minded. They are able to put aside differences and welcome the snake as a friend.” 故选择A。

根据原文“They would prefer to be left alone”他们宁愿独处,此处指的是蛇,而不是作者本人,所以排除选项D。最后一段“Whatever the reason for our like or dislike, snakes do something good in the circle of life.”

The students loved this idea. Many of them were not only willing to include their names, but also enjoyed sharing it with the class.

“I wish my teacher knew sometimes my homework is not signed (签名) because my mum is not around a lot,” read another.

After she learnt most of her students led heartbreaking lives, Kyle shared some of the notes on social media. She hoped other teachers would use the same lesson with their own students. Soon posts and photos of notes from other schools poured in(涌入) from around the world.

What is one thing that would help parents understand their kids better More than 8,000 US kids answered this question in an online poll (投票) by KidsHealth.org.

Many US kids — two out of three — said they get along with their parents. But that doesn’t mean they never disagree. In fact, most kids reported arguing with their parents, at least sometimes. And two out of five kids said arguments sometimes even include shouting at each other.

“It’s certainly normal to disagree and argue,” says Darcy Lyness, an American expert. “But it’s also important to learn how to do so respectfully (尊重地). Be patient. Don’t use a raised, angry voice.”

And not surprisingly, three out of four kids said they had lied to their parents sometimes. Many said they lie so they would not get in trouble or disappoint their parents. According to Lyness, lying isn’t just wrong. It can actually have bad results. Telling the truth builds trust.

Telling the truth, says Lyness, shows maturity (成熟). But older kids actually lie more often than younger ones. Kids aged 12 to 14 not only said they lie more, but they also reported having less fun, feeling less close and not getting along as well with their parents.

According to Lyness, those feelings are common. As kids become more independent (独立), they have more areas of disagreement with their parents. But it doesn’t have to be that way. “Kids and parents get along differently at each stage of the journey,” she says. “As kids grow and change, it is important for everybody to change.”

1.In Lyness’s opinion, kids_______ their parents.

  A. never agree with B. may argue with

  C. must always agree with D. can shout at

2.Why do some kids lie to their parents

  A. They don’t trust their parents. B. They don’t want to get into trouble.

  C. They don’t think lying is wrong. D. They are disappointed with their parents.

3.About _______ out of the 8,000 students in the poll said that they have lied to their parents.

  A. 3,000 B. 4,500 C. 6,000 D. 7,500

  A. have more fun in life B. seldom lie to their parents

  C. feel less close to their parents D. gets along better with their parents

5.The writer wrote this article to ____________ .

  A. explain why kids tell lies

  B. show how parents and kids get along

  C. avoid troubles between parents and kids

  D. help parents and kids understand each other better

Do you find it difficult to put down your mobile phone

If yes, you’re not alone. These days, many people are facing the stress in the use of mobile phones. They reach for their mobile phones when they wake up in the morning, and keep checking their social media apps to get the latest updates (更新).

A report from Google shows that 70 percent of people don’t want to spend much time on their phones. This is why Google introduced an app called Dashboard for the new Android operating system(安卓操作系统). This new app includes functions (功能) that help users manage the time. For example, users can see how many times they’ve unlocked their phone, how many times they’ve checked their social media apps, and how much time they spend on each app every day.

Once the users see this information, they’ll be able to make some changes. With the App Timer (计时) function, users can set a time limit for how long they can use each app for every day. After they’ve hit the limit, they won’t be able to use the app until the next day. And with another function, the app gets incoming calls silent when the user puts the phone face down.

If people truly want to make full use of their free time instead of losing hours on their phones, these new functions are just one way of doing that.

After all, who needs to use an app to stop you from using other apps The easiest answer would be just to use your willpower.

1.Where does the users’ stress come from

  A. Too many updates of the apps. B. Too many functions of the apps.

  C. Too much information they receive. D. Too much time they spend on the phone.

2.Which of the followings is NOT included in Dashboard’s functions

  A. It stops the users from using willpower.

  B. It checks how much time the users spend on apps.

  C. It lists how many times the users have unlocked the phone.

  D. It shows how many times the users have checked social media apps.

3.What does the underlined word “limit” in Paragraph 4 mean

4.Which picture shows the phone gets incoming calls silent

  A. B. C. D.
