第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节:(共15小题;每小题 2 分,满分 30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A
Imagine a classroom that has not the thing that's long been considered a necessary part to reading and writing? No paper, no notebooks, no textbooks, no test paper. Nor are there any pencils or pens, which always seem to run out of ink at the critical (关键的) moment.
A "paperless classroom" is what more and more schools are trying to achieve. Students don't do any handwriting in this class. Instead, they use palm-size, or specially-designed computers. The teacher downloads texts from Internet libraries and sends them to every student's personal computer. Having computers also means that students can use the Web. They can look up information on any subject they’re studying: from math to social science.
High school teacher, Judy Herrell in Florida the US, described how her class used the Web to learn about the war in Afghanistan (阿富汗) over one year ago. "We could touch every side of the country through different sites. For example, from the forest to refugee camps (难民营) ," she said. "Using a book three or four years old to get so much information is impossible.”
A paperless classroom is a big step towards reducing the waste of paper. High school teacher, Stephanie Sorrell in Kentucky, the US, said she used to give about 900 pieces of paper each week to each student.
"Think about the money and trees we could save with the computers, "she said. But, with all this technology, there’s always the risk that the machines will break down. So, in case of a power failure or technical problems, paper text-books are still widely available for these hi-tech students.
46. What does the phrase "run out of ink at the critical moment” mean?
A. Pens may not write well at the critical moment.
B. Pens get lost easily, so you may not find them at the critical moment.
C. Pens may have little or no ink at the critical moment.
D. Pens use ink, while pencils don't.
47 In a paperless classroom, what are necessary parts?
A. Pens. B. Computers. C. Information. D. Text-books.
48. To be more exact, Judy Herrell, the high school teacher, used the example of her class to show that .
A. the Web could take the students everywhere B. the Web taught the students a lot
C. the Web is a good tool for information
D. the Web, better than the textbooks, can give the latest and most comprehensive (全面的) information
49. The paperless classroom will benefit the most.
A. schools B. land C. trees D. computers

There is an English saying: "Laughter is best medicine." Until recently, few people took the saying seriously. Now, however, doctors have begun to look into laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They have found that laughter really can improve people's health.
Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny films while doctors checked their heart, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the heart beating and breathing; it also works several groups of muscles(肌肉) in the face, the stomach, and even the feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be beneficial.
Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effect of pain on the body. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programmes. The group that tolerated ( 忍耐 ) the pain for the longest time was the groups which listened to a funny programme, The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemicals in the brain which diminish both stress(压力) and pain.
As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics, in which they help to improve their patients’ condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter.
50. Doctors have proved the following EXCEPT that .
A. smiling does good to health B. laughter can be harmful C. there is a way to reduce pain D. laughter can work the muscles in the feet
51. The main idea of the passage is .
A. laughter and physical exercises have similar effects on the human body
B. smile can produce the same effects as laughter
C. pain can be reduced by laughter D. laughter is the best medicine
52 The students who tolerated (忍受)the pain for the longest time.
A. listened to different radio program B. could produce a kind of chemical
C. don't have stress of pain D. listened to a funny program 53. The underlined word "diminish" is similar to .
A. test B. stop C. reduce D. increase C Jim suffered heart problems. In conversation he expressed little joy and it seemed that his life was coming to a close. When his heart problems led to operation,(手术) Jim went through it successfully, and a full recovery(恢复) was expected. Within days, however, his heart was not beating properly. Jim was rushed back to operation, but nothing was found to explain the cause of his illness. He died on the operating table on the day before his 48th birthday. Dr. Bruce Smoller, a psychologist, had had many conversations with him, and the more he learned, the stranger he realized Jim's case was. When Jim was a child, his father, a teacher, suffered a heart attack and stayed home to recover. One morning Jim asked his father to look over his homework, promising to come home from school at noon to pick it up. His father agreed, but when Jim returned his father had died. Jim's father was 48. “I think all his life Jim believed he killed his father,” Dr. Smoller says. “He felt that if he had not asked him to look at his homework, his father would have lived. Jim had been troubled by the idea. The operation was the trial(审判)he had expected for forty years. “ Smoller believes that Jim willed himself not to live to the age of 48. Jim's case shows the powerful role that attitude plays in physical health, and that childhood experiences produce far-reaching effect on the health of grown-ups. Although most cases are less direct than Jim's, studies show that childhood events, besides genes, may well cause such midlife diseases as cancer, heart disease and mental illness. 54. Jim was sent back to operation because ________. A. his heart didn't work well B. he expected a full recovery C. his life was drawing to a close D. the first one wasn't well performed 55. What made Dr. Smoller feel strange about Jim's case? A. Jim died at a young age. B. Jim died on the operating table. C. Both Jim and his father died of the same disease. D. Jim's death is closely connected with his father's. 56. From Smoller's words, we can infer(推测) that ________. A. Jim's father cared little about his study B. Smoller agreed that Jim did kill his father C. Jim thought he would be punished(惩罚) some day
D. Smoller believed Jim wouldn't live to the age of 48
57. Which of the following could have strong effect on one's physical health according to the text?
a. One’s genes. b. One’s life in childhood. c. One’s physical education.
d. The date of one’s birthday. e. The opinions one has about something.
A. a, b, d B. a, b, e C. a, c, e D. b, c, d

Two brothers once decided to dig a deep hole behind their house. As they were working, a couple of older boys stopped by to watch. “What are you doing?” asked one of the visitors.
“We are going to dig a hole all the way through the earth! We are wondering what is happening on the other end of the earth!” one of the brothers volunteered excitedly.
The older boys began to laugh, telling the brothers that digging a hole all the way through the earth was impossible. After a long silence, one of the diggers picked up a jar full of spiders, worms, insects and interesting stones. He removed the lid and showed the wonderful contents (容纳物)to the scoffing(嘲笑)visitors.
Then he said confidently, “Even if we don’t dig all the way through the earth, look what we found along the way!”
Their goal was far too ambitious(雄心的,野心的`), but it did cause them to dig. That is what a goal is for; to cause us to move in the direction we have chosen. In other words, to set us to digging!
But not every goal will be fully to achieved. Not every job will end successfully. Not every friendship will endure(持续). Not every hope will come to pass. Not every love will last. Not every attempt(尝试,努力)will be completed. Not every dream will be realized.
But when you fall short of your aim, perhaps you can say, “Yes, but look at what I found along the way! Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life because I tried to do something!”
It is in the digging that life is lived, and it is the joy in the journey that truly matters!
58. The two brothers dug a hole to___________.
A. get some clean water B. show their confidence
C. reach the other end of the earth D. find a jar under the ground
59. One digger picked up the jar to show that___________.

B. there were many treasured objects under the earth
C. the things in it were very strange
D. during digging they were more than digging
60. The passage is written to tell us____________.

书面表达: One possible version:
Should students make friends on line? Some people say yes. The internet helps make many friends. Chatting on line, students can more freely express their feelings and opinions, and even get help with their foreign language studies.
Others, however, think students should not. They say making friends on line is a waste of time, which should be spent more meaningfully on study. Besides, some students get cheated on line.
It is my opinion that students should place their study, health and safety before other things. As for friendship, we can readily find it in our classmates and other people around us.
