地道的英语口语表达用语
不少人学习英语口语都有这样的烦恼——如何说一口有地道的英语口语。以下是小编给大家整理的地道的英语口语表达用语,欢迎阅读!
地道的英语口语表达用语
1. (To) Hit the books
从字面意思看,它表示撞击正在阅读的书籍,然而, 这个俚语在学生群体中十分常见,特别是美国那些功课繁重的大学生。它仅仅表达“学习”的意思,而且是一种告诉你的伙伴自己要学习的方式,可用在期末考试、期中考试甚至是一场英语测试时。
“Sorry but I can’t watch the game with you tonight, I have to hit the books. I have a huge exam next week!”
“对不起,我今晚无法和你一起观看比赛,下周有个重要的考试,我必须要学习了!”
2. (To) Hit the sack
和第一个俚语一样,这个俚语字面意思是敲击麻布袋,但事实上,它的意思是上床休息,你可以用这个词向你的朋友或家人表示你真的很累,想睡觉了。除此之外,你还可以用hit the hay表达这层意思。
“It’s time for me to hit the sack, I’m so tired.”
“是时候上床睡觉了,我太累了。”
3. (To) Twist someone’s arm
如果你逐字翻译,那么它字面意思表示抓住某人的胳臂并把它扭过来,这会非常疼。如果你被扭住了胳臂,那表示某人刚刚成功地说服你去做一件本来不是很想做的事。如果你成功地扭转其他人的胳臂,这表示你出色地说服了他们,最终他们同意按照你说的去做。
Tom: Jake you should really come to the party tonight!
Jake: You know I can’t, I have to hit the books (study).
Tom: C’mon, you have to come! It’s going to be so much fun and there are going to be lots of girls there. Please come?
Jake: Pretty girls? Oh all right, you’ve twisted my arm, I’ll come!
汤姆:杰克,你今晚真应该来参加聚会!
杰克:你知道我去不了,我必须要学习。
汤姆:来吧,你必须得来。聚会会很有意思的,而且会有很多女生在这儿。来吗?
杰克:漂亮的女生?哦,那好吧,你说服了我。我会去的。
4. (To be) Up in the air
当我们说到某些在空中的事物,我们想到的是某些东西飘在空中或在天上飞,或许是一架飞机或一个气球。但事实上,如果某人告诉你某些东西在空中,那么这表示事情不能确定;确定的计划还没制定。
“Jen have you set a date for the wedding yet?”
“珍,你决定结婚的日期了吗?”
“Not exactly, things are still up in the air and we’re not sure if our families can make it on the day we wanted. Hopefully we’ll know soon and we’ll let you know as soon as possible.”
“还没有,事情还是悬而未决,我们不确定家人是否能定在我们想要的那天。希望我们很快能知道,也尽快让你们知道。”
5. (To) Stab someone in the back
如果我们按照字面意思翻译这个俚语,可能会发现自己陷入了刑事纠纷中,用刀去刺某个人。然而, 这个俚语表示秘密地背叛并伤害了亲近和相信我们的人,辜负了他们的信任。我们会把这么做的人称为“背后刺客,陷害别人的人”。
“Did you hear that Sarah stabbed Kate in the back last week?”
“No! I thought they were best friends, what did she do?”
“She told their boss that Kate wasn’t interested in a promotion at work and Sarah got it instead.”
“Wow, that’s the ultimate betrayal! No wonder they’re not friends anymore.”
“你听说上周莎拉背叛了凯特这件事了吗?”
“没有!我以为她们是最好的朋友,她做了什么?”
“她告诉老板凯特对升职不感兴趣,莎拉顶替了她的位置。”
“哇,那是彻彻底底的背叛!怪不得她们绝交了。”
6. (To) Lose your touch
它字面意思表示再也不能用你的手指或手去触摸或感受。但实际上,它表示你失去了曾经拥有的可以处理某些事情的能力或才能。
你平时很擅长某种才能,但却渐渐地力不从心,处理不了,就可以用这个短语。
“I don’t understand why none of the girls here want to speak to me.”
“It looks like you’ve lost your touch with the ladies.”
“Oh no, they used to love me, what happened?”
“我不明白这里的女孩为什么不想和我说话。”
“似乎你在女士们面前的魅力消失了。”
“噢,不,她们过去都爱我,发生了什么事?”
7. (To) Sit tight
To sit tight is a strange English idiom and it literally means that you sit down squeezing your body in a tight way, which if you did it would be very uncomfortable, not to mention you’ll look really strange.这是个有点陌生的英文俚语,字面意思表示你做起来很拘谨,这会让你感到不舒服,更不用说让你看起来很怪了。但如果一个人告诉你这句俚语,他们是想让你安静地等待,在接到指示前不要采取行动。
“Mrs. Carter, do you have any idea when the exam results are going to come out?”
“Who knows Johnny, sometimes they come out quickly but it could take some time. You’re just going to have to sit tight and wait.”
“卡特夫人,你知道考试成绩什么时候出来吗?”
“谁知道呢,强尼,有时候出来得很快,但需要些时间。你就耐心等一等吧。”
8. (To) Pitch in
如果你试图从字面意思上理解这个俚语,你会发现这根本讲不通。象征性地来说,它表示对某事或某人有帮助,也有加入的意思。如果你的父亲告诉家里人这周末他想要每个人都动起身来,帮助打扫后院,这表示他想要每个人都贡献力量,清扫院子,让事情完成得更快。
“What are you going to buy Sally for her birthday?”
“I don’t know I don’t have much money.”
“Maybe we can all pitch in and buy her something great.”
“萨莉的生日你准备给她买什么礼物?”
“我不知道我是否有足够的钱。”
“或许我们可以凑些钱,给她买些很棒的东西。”
上面这段话表示每个萨莉的朋友都应该贡献一点钱,这样他们就能一起给萨莉买一件更大更好的礼物。
9. (To) Go cold turkey
“Shall I get your mom a glass of wine?”
“No, she’s stopped drinking?”
“Really, why?”
“I don’t know. A few months ago, she just announced one day she’s quitting drinking.”
“She just quit cold turkey?”
“Yes, just like that!”
“要我给你妈妈拿杯酒吗?”
“不用了,她已经戒酒了。”
“真的吗?为什么?”
“我不知道。几个月前,她只是宣称有一天她会戒酒的。”
“断然戒掉了?”
“是的,差不多是这样。”
10. (To) Face the music
从字面意思来看,这个俚语表示转身面向音乐的方向,但如果你的朋友或父母告诉你face the music,它有一个更严肃的意思。它表示“面对现实”,或者处理现实的情况,接受所有或好或坏的结果(大部分都是坏的)。或许因为你不确定或害怕结果逃避了某些事情,可能你对老师说谎了,而她发现了真相,那么现在你必须面对现实,接受惩罚。
“I can’t understand why I failed math.”
“You know you didn’t study hard, so you’re going to have to face the music and take the class again next semester if you really want to graduate when you do.”
“我不明白为什么数学考试没通过。”
“你知道你学习不努力,所以得面对现实,如果真的想毕业那就下个学期重修。”
附:看电影怎么学习英语口语?
1.Take it as a movie,just have fun(第一遍就愉快的看下来,不要满脑子“学英语”搞的紧张兮兮)
2.Find a proper one(no more than 20% new words)(可选择的电影很多,但生词量最好控制在20%,推荐阿甘正传,三观正,贴现实,难度小,或者各种动画片,以后随着能力的提升可以挑战更难的,不过生化危机一类的题材是不太接地气儿滴)
3.From now on,take it as a video book(接下来就认真研究)
4.stop by each sentence,check the meaning(需要一个小本,左边一页记下你根本不会的生词:右边一页记下你原本会的但是没有没有听出来的句子或词汇。接下来左边的是需要下功夫背的,而右边则是英语表达中我们以前没有意识到的规律,比如各种连读等等,以后你会发现右边的越来越少,也代表着把规律掌握的越来越好)
5.stop by each sentence,repeat(跟读,这个,要走心)
6.listen it as a whole(for finding unfamilar words)(这一步把4中我们依然没有掌握的重新标记,重点学习)
7.listen it as a whole(for checking over all understanding)(这一次底气足了很多,确保自己能听明白每句话的意思)
8.stop by each sentence,repeat(for emotion and intonation)(抑扬顿挫,带着感情,其实之前很多遍已经有了一个铺垫,这一步就是营造所谓的英语氛围)
