(二)Should the Secrets Behind Magic be Disclosed?
With a fascination with magic for centuries, there is a heated debate about the disclosure of magic recently. Some people thirst for the revelation of the magic secrets so that they may obtain some of the know-how and perform some magic on their own. They believe that the trend of revealing magic secrets is irresistible. But I don’t see eye to eye with them and I insist that the secrets behind the magic should not be disclosed.
I have two reasons to support my view. In the first place, the audience is fascinated with the magic because they like the feeling of being kept in suspense. If the secrets behind the magic are known to them, they would fell that the magic is nothing but a petty trick and the magicians are ridiculous clowns rather than demigods. In the second place, magic requiring laborious hours and considerable money are what the magicians live on, so revealing the magic secrets will result in a detriment to the interest of the magicians. The magicians couldnot perform the magic that happen to be known to the audience and therefore, they have less chance to earn money.
To sum up, the secrets behind magic should not be revealed with both of the audience and the magicians taken into account.
Our surroundings are being polluted fast and man's present efforts can not prevent it. Time is bringing us more people, and more people will bring us more industry, more cars, larger cities and the growing use of man-made materials.
What can explain and solve this problem? The fact is that pollution is caused by man -- by his desire for a modern way of life. We make "increasing industrialization" our chief aim.So we are often ready to offer everything: clean air, pure water, good food, our health and the future of our children. There is a constant flow of people from the countryside into the cities, eager for the benefits of our modern society. But as our technological achievements have grown in the last twenty years, pollution has become a serious problem.
Isn't it time we stopped to ask ourselves where we are going-- and why? It makes one think of the story about the airline pilot who told his passengers over the loudspeaker,"I've some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we're making rapid progress at 530 miles per hour. Thebad news is that we're lost and don't know where we're going. " The sad fact is that this becomes a true story when speaking of our modern society.
In my opinion, to protect environment, the government must take even more concrete measures. First, it should let people fully realize the importance of environmental protection through education. Second, much more efforts should be made to put the population planning policy into practice, because more people means more people means more pollution. Finally, those who destroy the environment intentionally should be severely punished. We should let them know that destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.
(四)Interview: An Essential Step in Recruiting面试:招聘的重要一步
There is no denying the fact that interview is a frequently used means in recruiting prospective employees. Both employers and job-seekers attach increasing importance to this procedure. The former allocate special time and staff for this task while the latter spend a lot of time and energy figuring out answers to possible questions, not to mention the money spent on dress. However, people’s views differ sharply as to the role of interview as a selection procedure. Some hold the positive view. They claim that it is an essential step in selecting talents, while others think light of this method. Personally, I believe that job interview plays an essential role in recruiting. First, interview is of vital importance in recruiting employees for such positions as actors or actresses, shopping assistants, air hostesses, models, etc, which have special demands for physical appearances, bearing and presence. These elements cannot be judged only according to self-description in the resume. This is where the proverb “to see is to believe” works. Secondly, interview reveals more about a prospective employee in such aspects as communicative skills and personalities. There is no doubt that communication is of striking importance in such a society featured by increasingly fine pision of labor. Weakness in communication and co-operation would hinder the development and success of an entire team. Some people may be excellent in single work, but they may not be good at coordinating with others. Besides, some may have drawbacks in personalities. Yet this can hardly be seen through the resume. Therefore, interview is needed. Thirdly, through interview, the employer can have a better understanding of the prospective employee’s level of professional knowledge. In a society of increasingly fierce competition, some are tempted to forge diplomas and certificates or exaggerate their capacities. Interview can work as a guard against these liars. Some companies arrange a written test that goes along with job interview. This serves as an effective touchstone. It is true that interview may also prove unreliable. For instance, some interviewees may exert every effort to present themselves as knowledgeable and competent during the interview while actually they are not. However, if they can lie during an interview, they may also cheat in exams or be dishonest in their resumes. An interview wouldn't add to the risk of recruiting a wrong employee. Actually, it serves as a second check against liars. To sum up, interview is indispensable in recruiting employees in that it can tell more about a candidate.
Last Sunday at noon father took me to have lunch in a big restaurant.
Walking through the splendid hall, we entered No. 2 Private Room. Several uncles were already there. What a rich feast! On the round table were placed many dishes which I couldn't name. In front of everyone there was a small bowl of soup with a small piece of meat inside. Later I learned that was turtle soup, each bowl was worth 18 yuan and all the dishes cost 600 yuan. Although the food was very delicious, I felt heavy in my heart.
This Sunday the same thing happened. All the dishes were paid by public money just as last week. Then in my mind appeared the scene that several classmates left school be carse of poverty. If a table of dishes cost 600 yuan, how many 600 yuan will be used up a day? And how many children can return to school with so much money? For our country's prosperity and future, please stop "eating" with public money!
