The following is the resignation letter (n.辞职书)from Steve Jobs to the Apple board(n.董事会):

CUPERTINO(n.美国地名，古柏蒂奴，苹果公司总部所在地), Calif.–August 24, 2011–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know.

Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession(n.继任) plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

乔布斯致苹果董事会的信函如下：

我一直都在强调，如果有一天，我无法再履行身为苹果 CEO 的职责的话，我会第一时间让你们知道。

很不幸，这一天到来了。

在这里，我提出辞呈，从苹果 CEO 的职位上退下。如果董事会、高层、以及苹果员工认可的话，我愿意担任董事会主席，继续为苹果服务。

至于继任者，我强烈建议继续执行当前的成功计划，并提名 Tim Cook 成为苹果的新任 CEO。
