I’m very happy to have a wonderful time with us tonight, my speech will begin with this picture. First of all, I want to ask us, what you can learn from it. Someone says, what a lonely soldier! Someone tells, how lovely the dog is! But in my opinion, from the soldier’s eyes, we can see a peaceful life, we can get a harmonious society.

Maybe there are some individuals wondering that the harmonious society sounds so shadowy that we even cann’t get close to it, so what’s on earth the real meaning of harmony? I begin to seek for the answer in our modern times.

Several days ago, we were so sorry to hear that large amount of military forces were sent to attack Libya, which has made thousands of refugees lose their home and relatives. Yes! I get it! Harmony means peace and stability!

There are still series of earthquakes shaking our hearts, in Yingjiang ang Japan, what’s worse, disasters refuse to stop their steps, along with them, the heartless tsunami, terrible nuclear radiation, hungriness and disease are all threatening human-beings’ existence.

Yes! I get it! Harmony means welfare and life!

There are some people standing on duty no matter rainy or snowy; There are some people saving lives wherever suffers disasters; There are some people protecting our peace day and night. They are our glorious servicemen!

Yes! I get it! Harmony means loyalty and dedication!

In our schoolyard, you may have heard an organization named “xiao lan mao”, a voluntary service team. As the caption of it, I emphasize to all the members that it’s our responsibility to care for the poor and week, to support the people who need help. And I promise, in the future, more actions will be taken, we are confident to make a difference!

I believe, where there is love, where there is harmony!

Harmonious Society

Nowadays all Chinese are sparing no effort to build a harmonious society. A society without warf-are, conflict, starvation and terror; A society that is full of dream, amity, equality and solidarity. In my eyes, harmonious society is the outcome and fruit of mankind’s friendly treatment to the society, other people as well as the nature.

There are several characteristics of the harmonious society, that is, democracy and the rule of law, fairness and justice, integrity and fraternity, vitality, stability and order, harmony between man and nature.

First and foremost, the establishment of the

harmonious society depends on how we do by our society. As is known to all, society is made up of our fellow mans, it is not the struggle of a single person but the endeavor of all of us that eventually lead to the development of our society. Living in the society, we all with no exception have the holy responsibility and obligatory duty to devote our effort so as to boost it to be more flourishing.

In the next place, the rapprochement relationship between different people is also an indispensable part of a harmonious society. It is true that we all live in the same star, under our feet is the same soil. Consequently, we ought to assist with each other and think of others. As to the individual, Rather than scolding and censuring others, I think that one should be concerned about the people around him. In short, we are supposed to be grateful to others. “Do as you would be done by others”, if we always bear this meaningful saying in mind, I firmly believe that our life will be more substantial and our society will be an warm family for us to live in.

In the third place, the socialist democratic and legal system must be further improved; the fundamental principle of administering the country according to the law must be generally implemented; people's rights and

interests shall enjoy concrete respect and be guaranteed. To achieve this, we shall develop a socialist democracy and thus administer the country according to the rule of law; we shall enable the broad masses of people to participate in economic, political, cultural and social management; we shall constantly improve the legal system, ensure judicial

justice and safeguard judicial authority so as to concretely respect and protect people's economic,

political, cultural and social rights and interests and protect human rights and property rights.

Forth, the widening gap between urban and rural development and between different regions shall be gradually reversed; a reasonable and orderly income distribution pattern must be built; employment rates will be relatively high and a social security system covering both urban and rural residents shall be established in general. To achieve this, we shall reverse the unbalanced development between urban and rural areas and between different regions; we should reduce the proportion of high and low income groups and increase the proportion of the middle income group. We shall achieve full employment through economic

restructuring and innovation of systems and basically set up the social security system covering both urban and rural residents.

Fifth, Creativity of society as a whole will be enhanced markedly and an innovation-based nation will be

established in general. To achieve this, we shall ensure that the whole society becomes more united and harmonious; we shall deliver more perfect mechanisms for fair

competition, further improve the modern property rights so as to give full play to the creativity of the whole society. On the basis of integrating social management resources we shall set up a complementary network to ensure a clear division of government and market and a reasonable division of responsibilities between governments so as to better meet the needs of our harmonious society.

Last but not the least, the importance of our nature also cannot be ignored. In the past, the over development of industry has done harm to the nature and spend too much natural resources with no hope of the future. But to our relief, modern people have fully realized that it is necessary to protect our nature. Resources will be used more efficiently and the ecological environment will be improved visibly. To achieve this objective, we shall speed up our pace to change patterns of economic growth and reduce our overall consumption level of energy and other resources; we shall focus on resolving the environmental and ecological problems which

endanger people’s health and affect sustainable development, thus enabling people to have clean water, fresh air and safe, healthy food; we shall make new progress in building a resource conserving and environmentally friendly society.

To sum up，the formation of the harmonious society is not something that can be achieved within a short period of time. The participation of the whole society under the leadership of the Party is also important. We shall follow a scientific and democratic path of administration in accordance with laws, and unite all forces available so as to create a harmonious society where everyone shares the responsibilities as well as achievements. Only by our joint effort can we reach the goal of building our society to be a harmonious one.

How do you feel, when you go shopping, some people don’t follow the queue? How do you feel, when the rich enjoy their lives in their 200-square-meter houses, homeless people have to run the streets and orphans cry hopelessly? How will you feel, when the selfish businessman make fake products, innocent people have to pay prices?

Yes, You must feel hurt, depressed, frustrated, and even angry. However, have you ever tried to figure it out what difficulties are we facing to overcome? Have you wondered what is the characteristic of a harmonious society and what we can do to help build a harmonious society?

Our President Hu Jintao has said that a harmonious society should feature democracy, the rule of law, equity, justice, sincerity, amity and vitality. In my opinion, it is such a society that will give full scope to people’s talent and creativity, enable all the people to

unite ,cooperate and devote; it is such a society that people love, trust, respect, encourage, care for each other; it is such a society that all low-income people could lead a high-standard life and the vast countryside would be stable and prosperous; it is such a society that people have the freedom to talk and their voices will be heard and taken into consideration; it is such a society that few crimes occur, people here have high moral standard and legal awareness; it is such a society that the building of spiritual civilization and material civilization go hand in hand; it is such a society that could balance different interests and strive to ensure equality for all in terms of personal rights, opportunities, welfares and wealth distribution; it is such a society that we not only live in harmony with each other, but also with natural environment ,and so on.

American President Kennedy once said, Ask not what the country can do for you，ask what you can do for the country. Building a harmonious society is not just a government, a group, or a person’s responsibility, but depends on everybody, everyone, you, just here, sitting and listening to my words. Take Wenchuan earthquake as an example, people all over the country united as a great wall to fight against earthquake and relieve the disaster after the misfortune fall on Sichuan. Surely enough ,if we instill love,

trust, tolerance, elegance, mercy and gratefulness in our heart , there is no chance that we won’t live in harmony with each other and the environment.
