鲁迅写给颜黎民的话
颜黎民君：
昨天收到十日来信，知道那些书已经收到，我也放了心。你说专爱看我的书，那也许是我常论时事的缘故。不过只看一个人的著作，结果是不大好的：你就得不到多方面的优点。必须如蜜蜂一样，采过许多花，这才能酿出蜜来，倘若叮在一处，所得就非常有限，枯燥了。
专看文学书，也不好的。先前的文学青年，往往厌恶数学，理化，史地，生物学，以为这些都无足重轻，后来变成连常识也没有，研究文学固然不明白，自己做起文章来也胡涂，所以我希望你们不要放开科学，一味钻在文学里。譬如说罢，古人看见月缺花残，黯然泪下，是可恕的，他那时自然科学还不发达，当然不明白这是自然现象。但如果现在的人还要下泪，那他就是胡涂虫。不过我向来没有留心儿童读物，所以现在说不出那些书合适，开明书店出版的通俗科学书里，也许有几种，让调查一下再说罢。
其次是可以看看世界旅行记，籍此就知道各处的人情风俗和物产。我不知道你们看不看电影;我是看的，但不看什么“获美”“得宝”之类，是看关于菲洲和南北极之类的片子，因为我想自己将来未必到菲洲或南北极去，只好在影片上得到一点见识了。
上海说起桃花来，我在上海也看见了。我不知道你到过上海没有?北京的房屋是平铺的，院子大，上海的房屋却是直叠的，连泥土也不容易看见。我的门外却有四尺见方的一块泥土，去年种了一株桃花，不料今年竟也开起来，虽然少得很，但总算已经看过了罢。至于看桃花的名所，是龙华，也有屠场，我有好几个青年朋友就死在那里面，所以我是不去的。

三月廿七日的信，我收到了，虽然也转了几转，但总算很快。
我看你的爹爹，人是好的，不过记性差一点，他自己小的时候，一定也是不喜欢关在黑子里的，不过后来忘记那时的痛苦了，却来关自己的孩子，但以后该不再关你了罢。我希望你们有记性，将来上了年纪，不要再随便打孩子，不过孩子也会有错处的，要好好地对他说。
你的六叔更其好，一年没有消息，使我心里有些不安，但是他太性急了一些，拿我的那些书给不到二十岁的青年看，是不相宜的，要上三十岁才容易看懂，不过既然看了，我也不必再说什么。你们所要的两本书，我已找出，明天当托书店挂号寄上，并一本《表》，一本杂志(《海燕》第2期)。杂志的内容其实也并没有什么可怕的，但官的胆总是小，做事总是凶的，所以就出不下去了。
还有一本《引玉集》，是木刻画，只因为是我印的，所以顺便寄上，可以大家玩玩看看。如果给我信，由这书末页所写的书店转，较为妥当。
一张照相，就夹在《引玉集》的纸套里。这大约还是四五年前照着的，新的没有，因为我不大爱看自己的脸，所以不常照。不是也好像要虐-待孩子似的相貌吗?还是不要挂，收在抽屉里罢。
问我看什么书好，可使我有点为难。现在印给孩子们看的书很多，但因为我不研究儿童文学，所以没有留心;据看见过的说起来，看了无害的就算好，有些却简直是讲昏话。以后我想留心一点，如果看见好的，当再通知。但我的意思，是以为你们不要专门看文学，关于科学的书(自然是写得有趣而容易懂的)以及游记之类，也应该看看的。
