推倒柏林墙的17年后，一个重新统一的德国向世界打开了他的大门，德国世界杯将成为全世界各国球迷欢聚一堂、结交朋友的场所，这就是赛事组织者选择比赛口号的精髓：DieWeltzuGastbeiFreunden（欢聚德国结缘天下）。
本届世界杯将在全世界最好的赛场进行，它的象征意义已经远远超越体育的界限。如同返回到1954年德国在瑞士赢得世界杯的成功，它标志着一个国家可以以一种最优美的姿态回到世界大家庭。
2006年，德国人将有机会改变某些陈腐之词和先入为主的观念，整个世界也有机会亲眼目睹一个想象中的国家最真实的一面：它美丽多姿的风景、丰富的文化遗产和智慧幽默的人民。

和墨西哥、意大利、法国一样，德国现在已经是第二次主办世界杯比赛，第一次德国世界杯上我们看到弗朗茨·贝肯鲍尔作为冠军球队的队长高高举起冠军奖杯，现在他负责主持的德国组委会正在为世界杯热身，当然现在的世界杯和当年的世界杯相比已经有了很大的变化：回到1974年，只有16支球队参加比赛，包括现在以后不存在的前民主德国（GDR）和扎伊尔。后者是来自非洲国家的唯一代表，不过在世界杯上他们14次被攻破大门而自己却没有一个进球。
2006年世界杯就完全是另外一个样子了，有32支球队最后进入决赛圈，其中包括5支来自非洲的球队，他们现在的水平早已有了很大提高。回忆一下2002年日韩世界杯上塞内加尔如何成为黑马，可以说这种情况同样发生在韩国队身上，去年世界杯上他们更打入半决赛。有些事情在1974年真是无法想象的！
这些成绩见证了国际足联在最近四分之一个世纪中所作出的努力——帮助足球世界中的各国球队在同一起点上进行比赛。我将非常高兴地欢迎大家来德国，来到我的朋友们中间，我们期待着能在2006年看到您，来一起欢庆这举世瞩目的盛典。
